On 02 January, 2024, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal approved a proposal to set up a new industrial hub in Rani Khera, Delhi. The industrial hub will come up on 147 acres of land, which is being acquired from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA)
The upcoming industrial hub, which will be implemented in two phases, will be an eco-friendly project focusing on service industries such as information technology (IT), information technology-enabled services (ITES), media, biotechnology, and research. Besides, a smart integrated IT park and multilevel buildings will also be developed
The Chief Minister emphasised completing the development work within a set time frame. All modern amenities would be accommodated to people interested in setting up industrial units. Zero-emission industries will be given the priority. Further, the Delhi government will provide land at concessional rates for the same. In addition, the document had been submitted to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena for approval
The Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) has been handed over the responsibility to develop the new industrial hub. Upon its development, the Rani Khera industrial area would offer direct as well as indirect employment
the city has 29 planned industrial areas and flatted factory complexes apart from 26 unplanned or non-conforming industrial pockets. A world-class electronic city with ‘plug-and-play’ facilities has also been planned in Baprola
In 2011, the Delhi government announced the project with the initial deadline to complete the first phase by 2022, but it could never take off, later in 2020 it was revived. In January 2021, the government reviewed the project and extended the deadline to complete the first phase in March 2023 and the second phase in March 2025
